Tips to reduce negative marks in bank exams

Negative marks is a part of IBPS Exam to ensure that most of the unprepared and incapable candidates are filtered out in the first phase itself. In IBPS Exam, for every wrong answer 25 marks will be deducted from your total score. Lets see how to avoid the loss of marks due to negative marking.



  • Attempt Easy Questions First: Once you get the question paper, scan the questions quickly and begin with easier questions first because these questions can be solved quickly and you will get enough time to solve difficult questions. This will help you build your confidence.
  • Leave The Questions That Is Completely Foreign To You: Never guess blindly. Answer only those questions that you are confident or otherwise it may cause negative marking. Also make sure you are not skipping too many unknown questions as this will reduce your overall score in the bank exam.
  • Make Inteligent Guesses: When you are answering unfamiliar questions, make some intelligent guesses. Guess only if you are confused between two options as your chances of getting it right are 50%. Don't answer the question, if you are confused between more than 2 options.
  • Have A Clear Idea Of When To Start Attempting And Guessing: You must know how many questions to attempt so that you can avoid guessing once you have attempted that many questions. By having a rough idea about the expected cut-off, you will know when to stop attempting and guessing.
  • Luck Testing: Usually unpreprepared candidates use this trick in bank exam. This is not the right way to solve as these candidates often end up by getting negative marks.
  • Take Calculated Risks: Candidates should take calculated risks by answering the option which they think is the closest to the answer. Without taking any calculated risk a candidate may not cross the number of questions required to achieve the cutoff of that section. Bank exam prepration will give you a fair idea about majority of the topics, so that you know the probable answer in the given set of choices.
